Belknap Neighborhood

The Belknap Neighborhood is located in the Highlands area of central Jefferson County, just a few miles outside downtown Louisville.

Louisville Magazine recognized Belknap in 2010 as one of Louisville's most livable and lovable neighborhoods. In 2012, Neighborhoods USA recognized Belknap with a national newsletter award, the first time this organization had chosen a Kentucky neighborhood. Because of its mature shade trees, proximity to shopping and restaurants, and a famous annual fall festival, Belknap is one of the best neighborhoods in the city. It's a friendly place to raise children, where neighbors know one another, and yards and homes are as unique as the residents.

The Douglass Loop - just a few blocks from the Belknap School- is a local business district with dining, nightlife, shopping, and many other retailers. Grab a bite to eat and a drink at Havana Rumba, Graeter's Ice Cream, Ten20 Craft Brewery,  Hi-Five Donuts, Good Belly Sandwich Shop, Highlands Bar & Grille, Twig & Leaf, or the Lucky Cat Cafe & Lounge. Gym & fitness options, doctor offices, pharmacies, and salons are all within walking distance of The Belknap. On Sundays, there is a farmer's market in the neighborhood and a nearby Kroger supermarket for all your other grocery needs.

Parks & Rec - Lakeside Swim Club has been the neighborhood watering hole since 1924. It's a great place to cool off during the summer, and it is just a couple blocks away from The Belknap. The Hal Warheim Park, also known as "the Secret Park," is a hidden gem in the middle of the neighborhood with its secret entrance next to 1832 Overlook Terrace. Nearby, you'll also find Cherokee Park (and Big Rock), the Louisville Nature Center, Seneca Park, Seneca & Cherokee Golf Courses (public), and the Louisville Zoo.

The Belknap Fall Festival - There is no better time to visit or live in Belknap than the second weekend of October! For over 20 years, the annual Belknap Fall Festival brings together 15,000 neighbors and visitors from all over the region for two fun days. There are over 100 local artists, live music, beer and wine, food trucks, educational activities, and a family fun zone.
